Manish has posted a couple of posts (here and here) about blogs recently. And today, Gartner has released a prediction that blogging will peak and plateau in 2007.
There's some point in the prediction. The explosive growth of blogging was based on the tremendous hype they have been at the centre of. As die-hard bloggers continue to be dedicated to the craft, many early adopters (estimated to the tune of 200 million) are dropping out.
My own belief is that blogging will continue to hold centrestage - and make a difference not in quantity but in quality. As people (and companies) figure out how to harness the power of blogs, they'll become further embedded in our societies and culture.
Russell Davies has posted today about Penguin UK's blog, a rare oasis in the desert of corporate blogging. Echoing that sentiment, I have created a side panel titled 'brand blogs' with links to some excellent brand/corporate blogs. If any of you come across any more, do mail me and I'll add them to the list.
