Is it paranoid to wonder why the two most underappreciated films of 2006. Children of Men and Idiocracy, also happen to be the two that ask us to peer deep into the mirror and contemplate our future?
I haven't watched either of the two movies mentioned. In fact, I hadn't even heard of them until I read this post, but a background check shows that Children of Men is ranked 172 on IMDb's all time top 250 list, ahead of Doctor Zhivago, Rosemary's Baby and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. In my opinion, that's hardly being underappreciated.
They were both, still, the least marketed and bandied movies of the lot. Children of men got a lot of noise only after sites like slate.com and salon.com gave it the trumps up. Until then, it was what I'd call a sleeper. And, relatively speaking, both films were less talked about and less appreciated than a less interesting film like Babel.

There's much praise across the board for Children of Men at Rotten Tomatoes
In my opinion, Rotten Tomatoes is a good blend of the critical and the commercial viwpoint.
Children of Man seems like a good flick - haven't managed to get my hands on it yet. But would be happy to trade other movies for it.
Yep, i tend to used "Rotten Tomatoes" a lot - it lends good overall persp.

In the words of a colleague (and I agree with every word) Babel was 'pretentious crap.'
