Freeze kiya jaye, Compaqda

SRK’s first KBC episode is over and am sure entire India (okay few million atleast) must have been glued to their TV screen watching the Badshah doing his comical stuff. I understand SRK is under tremendous pressure to excel Big B. But in the bargain he ended up taking the tone of voice and posture of Senior AB. Originality zilch. Few occasional cheap jokes and cool sounding phrases, SRK got nothing more to offer. And I guess other episodes won’t be any different, though it’s too premature for me to comment.

‘Lock kiya jaye’ has become ‘Freeze kiya jaye.’ Hug is the new body language for saying alvida (goodbye). Lenovo is changed to Compaq. Videocon and Santro are the main sponsors. Therefore more SRK during ad breaks.

But did you guys notice one thing which I did?

The winning amount cheque that he is signing belongs to Union Bank of India. Now isn’t that a little mismatch given the fact that SRK is the new brand ambassador of ICICI bank.

Freeze kiya jaye Compaqda?

on this one, do not agree at all. I am a SRK fan and I wasn't disappointed. Loved him, music video, humour, ada/ idiocy and all LOL.

i think he was true to himself! (all style, little originality) but no pretence as well.

in the age where celebs are part of the larger community, the hug makes him more accessible( its actually the jhappi!). I was appalled myself at the hug idea at first, but on TV it was ok:-)

On originality - KBC is a borrowed and heavily templated concept, little room for deviation. In an atmosphere where the critics, AB fans are all out to take his ass, poor guy better stick to the AB benchmark.

AB is a legend, SRK is the King of bollywood and that should be left at that...:-)

Like AB, SRK is a meta brand. He needn't do much now to enjoy that status. Long live idol pooja!

Yes Union Bank of India was a surprise...Maybe Star was asking for too high a price and actually ICICI doesn't need that any more!

I was all agog and ready to watch it but the cable mysteriously disappeared when the clock struck the hour :(

Now now this is a pure fan speak. LOL. Even if someone copies, fans have their own emotions and justification. Too premature to comment at this stage. Let the show be a month old and then it will be the perfect time to comment on an actors performance. Until then long live idle idol pooja.

Dont have a set top box at home but i did a quick sms poll with friends in bangalore and couple of other places and the overall feedback was SRK was Rocking. I think we need to give it some more time before really getting to make comparisons.

Big B and King Khan are different personalities and I think its only fair that one should look at them individually and not make comparisons though i know its inevitable.

But the real winner is not Big B nor SRK ,nor Star its KBC. I think that's cliched....

and i was watching the junior AB's best performance ever (by his standards)...GURU. Though the movie isnt great by Mani sir's standards.

Manish, your first line in the comment explained the rest of it...'I am a SRK fan'

Avinash, the last 4 & 1/2 minute speech )with 30 seconds ka munaafa) is a great one...

cheers!

personally, i dont think that comparisons (ineveitable though) are justified. even if it is, then its too early to do so.

I think it's a question of demographics. The younger generation will prefer SRK. If KBC has to have a future, it needs SRK. It hurts to say this but the fact is Big B is is yesterday's news. Speaking of comparisons, is it just me or do more people think Abhishek would have made a better 'Don'?
