I have been thinking about magazines these past couple of days after we exchanged mails on The Economist. Though my thoughts began with what I would do without my weekly dose of the real world (conveniently packaged within the covers of The Economist) they quickly spread to how much I love and rely on a few magazines to feed me everything I need to keep my information metabolism up and running. And here they are :
1. The Economist
The one magazine I absolutely cannot do without. Though I do not follow its political coverage much, I peruse the last few pages - covering business, science, the arts and miscellaneous things - with unreserved delight.
2. WIRED
I don't read every word written in every issue in the WIRED but I really really wish I could. One section called Infoporn - which uses graphs to make data come alive - is a promise that's delivered many many times over. I just turn to the page and just stare at the centrespread for hours.
3. BBC History Magazine
Though I studied science in college, I have developed a fascination for history in recent times. And this magazine - that I pick in discount sale stores - is the perfect choice to feed my curiosity for everything from World War II to the (lack of) exploits of highlander legends like Rob Roy.
4. Scientific American
Science, of course, is my first love. For years my favourtite science magazine used to New Scientist but it's become very newsy of late. And ever since Scientific American introduced their Indian edition, they have had me queuing up for the next issue - and always too early for it.
5. Jon Howard's Blogger's Digest
This one's the controversial choice in my Top 5. It's not what you can classify as a conventional magazine but I think in this post that Jon Howard puts together every month, there are seeds of the role magazines will perform in the future. True, it doesn't have a snazzy cover but like all my other favourite magazines, it introduces me to everything I should be reading and knowing.

Meraj, who said I managed it? ;)
I am always short of all that I should be reading. Though I can honestly say that no issue of The Economist goes unread.
